By weaving together strips of discarded drawings with sterilized, used masks from friends, The Woven Unforgotten serves as a chronological tapestry of misfit and unwanted materials that have found new life, with older drawings clustered towards the central eye in the collage. Given the few art supplies I had, having then just moved to a new apartment, I wove in the masks to remind viewers of my uncertainty in the present and future as an artist working remotely.
Collaged strips of old drawings (charcoal on newsprint, graphite on drawing paper, oil pastel on toned paper, spray paint on watercolor paper, alcohol marker on watercolor/toned paper), used disposable face masks, hot glue. 2021. 38” x 24”.
